We will cross the international border south of San Diego for a picturesque drive down the Baja coast. Sweeping vistas of the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean are the prelude to arriving in Ensenada. A brief journey east on Highway 3 brings you to the peaceful serenity of our world-famous Horsepower Ranch.

Settle into one of the ranch’s guest rooms, then find your way into the comfortable Great Room for your first official “Driver’s Meeting.” You’ll be greeted by a professional guide and receive important route and safety information. Afterward, you’ll have a chance to familiarize yourself with our custom-built Baja Challenge cars parked just outside in our center courtyard.  If there’s enough daylight, you’ll even get to take one out for a few “practice laps.”

The day will be complete with a car and equipment orientation, followed by a Mexican BBQ and cocktails in “Mad Dog’s Carrera Cantina.” Check out the historical Baja racing photography and our very special Baja Legacy “Wall of Fame.” [/toggle]

An early wake up will be rewarded with a home-cooked breakfast, hot coffee and orange juice. Once your baggage is loaded into a chase truck, strap yourself in for the first leg of your Baja adventure. With radio communications checked and the 2.5-liter fuel injected engines warmed-up, we’ll head out of Horsepower Ranch for the wilds of Baja.

Today is an adventure in diversity. We’ll take you through dynamic desert terrain, high-flying hills and jumps and challenging cutbacks. Your destination – beautifully scenic San Quintin on the Pacific Ocean. The first turn heads out through the hills with
a stop at Santo Tomas – a beautiful retreat on the edge of the desert lined with some wonderfully swimmer friendly beaches.

You’ll find a spectacular lunch spread in a unique setting – on the bluffs, a beach, a desert locale, we never know until we arrive. After lunch, the run south to San Quintin takes you over two-track sandy trails and power slides through every corner, if you dare. It’s an incredibly fun run. Don’t forget to get the cameras out and take postcard-worthy pictures with the brilliant Pacific ocean in the background.

Later that afternoon we’ll check-in to the historic Old Mill hotel in San Quintin. Crack open a “cold one,” that never tasted so good. Dinner will be at the Old Mill and it’s your choice…steak, chicken or seafood. The weather here on this wonderful slice of the Pacific should be in the neighborhood of 75 degrees. Expect to enjoy a killer sunset and great company.

Breakfast is served at the hotel, while the day’s itinerary and driving route are determined. It’s an absolutely amazing experience off-roading on the bluffs overlooking picturesque beaches. Make a quick right at the Y to start climbing the hills before finding yourself racing atop tabletop mountains. Don’t worry, we’ll stop at key points to take in the rustic canyons. A morning of exhilarating driving will be topped by a hot lunch – safari style – in a beautiful remote location.

For your final stretch, you’ll head up the rugged terrain up the back side of the mountain to world famous Mike’s Sky Rancho. Watch the suspension eat up the terrain with complete ease. Roll into Mike’s Sky Rancho – an off roader’s haven with 30 years of memorabilia and folklore in the bar from the likes of Parnelli Jones, Steve McQueen & Ivan Stewart. It is a visual feast for the eye. Have an ice cold cerveza as soon you arrive and the helmet comes off. Pull up your chair to a family style dinner and Mike’s homemade tequila and it’s Time to Relax.

A gentle knock on the door awakes you to the crisp, clean air of Mike’s. The smell of freshly-ground coffee is a fragrant prelude to the Mexican breakfast waiting in the dining room. With meals complete and bags packed, your guide will lead you into one of the most mind-bending trails in northern Baja.

This morning will be highlighted by an incredible run from Mike’s down steep mountain passes filled with boulders and tight narrow trails. Upon reaching Walker’s Corner, you’ll conquer fast roads and mountain trails as you enter the
lush green fields of the farming village, Valle de la Trinidad.

After a drink and a quick snack, the final run back to Horsepower Ranch begins.
It will take everything you’ve learned over the past three days to guide your team through the tricky washes at El Alamo before arriving back through Ojos Negros
in great shape.

Your tour ends where it all began – in the lush green valley at Horsepower Ranch. Our staff will help celebrate the completion of your life-changing adventure with a cold drink and a special late lunch. You can even take a quick shower and change into fresh clothes before bidding your new Wide Open friends farewell.
