Without question, Wide Open Excursions set the gold standard for world-class adventure tours. A cornerstone to earning our international reputation for excellence is our staff of guides. Each of them are veterans of off-road motorsports, and many have won desert championships and races like the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. More importantly, each Wide Open guide knows every inch of the Baja peninsula. Their mission is simple: to provide all of our clients with personal service that’s second to none and make sure each tour is both thrilling and safe.

James began his motor vehicle career during his adolescence when he fabricated his own “mini-bike” made from a bicycle and lawnmower engine. After college, he began working at DG Performance Specialties, fabricating motocross bikes during the day and racing the So Cal Pro Night MX Race Circuit. After an injury prevented him from racing in the motocross sector further, he began to take an interest in road bicycles and continued until reaching the USCF Category 2 Level.
In 1980, James began working for Kawasaki Motors Corporation USA as a part of the “Team Green” department. Working in this division introduced James to the world of off road racing.
As the team coordinator, he eventually led the Kawasaki Team Green to nine consecutive Baja 1000 wins. Eight of those nine wins as first overall vehicle. Nick’s passion for dirt sports started at the age of 3 ½ when his father taught him to ride a mini bike in the back yard. Since then, he has ridden almost everything that has two or more wheels on a dirt track and if there is a race that he can get himself into, he will. 2009 was an especially successful racing year for Nick. He finished in 2nd place in Class 1 at the Baja 500, finished in 1st place in Class 5500 at the Vegas to Reno Race, and finished 1st in the BC Class at the Baja 1000. In addition to his racing titles as a driver, as the Director of Race Operations, Nick has been successful in leading the Wide Open army of cars to three Baja 1000 races with 100% finishing rate. Nick started guiding trips for Wide Open in 2006.
