As the sun warms up the still-awakening town, we rumble past an eclectic mix of dwellings that are home to locals and the many Americans who spend at least part of their lives in this Mexican paradise. With the Sea of Cortez to our left, our group quickly leaves the Bay behind as we head south, then make a right turn onto the "Green Door Trail." A well-kept secret, this challenging trail is a great test of skill, throwing our guests nearly every type of off-road terrain.

Once back on the main road, high-speed sections of trail wind their way into one of Wide Open's favorite locations: Punta San Francisquito. We'll enjoy a special taco lunch at this destination's pristine white sand beach. There's time for a little rest in the sun or a dip in the warm, crystal blue waters. This place is a Corona beer commercial come to life...

Some of the trips most authentic desert driving is next, as our fast-moving caravan makes its way up the mountains and through magnificent cactus forest that lead into the historic settlement of El Arco. Don't forget to provide a friendly wave to the always curious groups of young kids that appear whenever we stop.

The final part of the afternoon takes us into Baja Sur (Baja South) and into the oasis-like setting of San Ignacio. You won't believe the lush green vegetation of ancient Palm trees and the park-like setting of this charming Mexican village. Dinner tonight at Rice and Beans. Don't forget the ceviche.
